RULES AND REGULATIONS

General Rules

  • Students are not allowed to use cell-phones inside thecampus.
  • Indulging in theft, fraud, deliberate falsification of records, fighting or assault on Another person or usage of vile or obscene language within the premises of theInstitute or in the hostels will amount to seriousmisconduct.
  • Smoking inside the Institute premises or in any area, which is deemed to be an extension of the Institute premises, is strictly prohibited (1 Km. radius of theInstitute).
  • Accidents happen, and one should take all precautions to avoid the same. Deliberate damage to Institute property of a serious nature, including damaging or mutilating books borrowed from the Institute library or accidents due to serious negligencecausing unacceptable loss, damage or injury will amount to Serious Misconduct and will entail monetary and/or disciplinarymeasures.
  • Academic dishonesty during, before, or after any examination or in preparing any academic work or assignment, or providing assistance to others for the same may lead to the student’s in question being summarily suspended and referred to theDisciplinary Committee withoutwarning.
  • Being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs will also lead to the studentbeing summarily expelled without warning.
  • Using unacceptable/vile/obscene language within the Institute premises willbe interpreted as SeriousMisconduct.
  • Any attendance, assessment or assignment related irregularities would be strictly dealt with. Missing an assessment or missing an assignment submission deadline will lead toa drastic reduction in your overall attendance percentage and disciplinary action, including debarment from appearing inexaminations.
  • Breach of discipline during Casual Training or Industrial Training is strictlydiscouraged.
  • Acts of insubordination / defiance of authority will be strictly dealtwith.
  • Ensure that you return all books borrowed from the Institute library within the period specified. Not complying with this rule may result in cancelling of your Libraryborrowing privileges.
  • Do not use the Institute telephone for making calls of a personal nature,unless authorized by designated institutepersonnel.
  • Maintain silence and decorum in class. Do not be the cause of disturbance in yourclass, or to others attending classes in yourproximity.
  • Parents and guardians are requested to approach Faculty-in-charge, HODs or Group Tutors with prior appointmentonly.
  • English is the language of choice at National Institute of Management Studies. Please ensure that you speak in English only inside the Institute premises. Students not complying with the samemay be charged with fines or otherwise penalized.

Discipline

National Institute of Management Studies is uncompromising in its efforts to ensure high standards of morality and discipline among its students.

This section will tell students what to do, and what will happen, if the Institute wishes to take disciplinary action against them. Although we hope that they will never need to act on these codes, it is very important that this section is carefully read.

The Institute has the power to refer students to a Disciplinary Committee if it feels that there are grounds to do so. The student’s attendance may or may not be required at such Disciplinary Committee hearing. They shall have the right to submit a written statement if they find that the students are the subject of a complaint through the Code of Discipline.

If any student finds difficulty or does not understand this section, he/she may contact the designated Group Tutor who will be pleased to assist.

Jurisdiction

All students are subject to the immediate jurisdiction of their respective Group Tutor and ultimately to the Director in respect to their studies and their code of conduct. It is a condition of entry to the Institute that each student shall conform to the published rules and regulations and any further amendments or revisions to the same.

Minor Offences

Designated Group Tutors, respective Academic Faculty, subject tutors and other Institute staffs shall be entitled to deal with disciplinary matter of a minor nature related to a breach of the regulations pertaining to their designated area of control.

Penalties for minor offences, which may be administered by those above, shall include:
  • (a) Warning and Admonition,
  • (b) Reprimand,
  • (c) Punitive or Corrective action [punishment, assignments, detention, etc.],
  • (d) Disqualification from using related facilities/attending related classes for up to a maximum of one month, administered with the consent of Group Tutor.

Information about all such penalties will be informed to the Group Tutor within 2 working days of administering of the same for his/her reference. The Group Tutor reserves the right to call and counsel the student in question for further investigation.

Serious Misconduct

Where an offence is considered to be serious misconduct, it shall be referred to the Administrative Officer, who shall decide whether the offence is to be regarded as minor offence or serious misconduct. Thereafter, it shall be referred to the Disciplinary Committee composed of:

  • Director
  • Administrative Manager
  • Group Tutor
  • Up to 2 co-opted members to give expert advice, but the advisor may not take partin decision.

The Disciplinary Committee shall deal with serious misconduct including, but not restricted to the following:

Theft, fraud, deliberate, falsification of records, fighting or assault on another person, smoking inside the Institute premises, deliberate damage to Institute property of a serious nature, serious negligence causing unacceptable loss, damage or injury.

Academic dishonesty during, before or after any examination or in preparing any academic work, or providing assistance for the same; Being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs; Using unacceptable language within the Institute premises; Any attendance, assessment or assignment related irregularities; Breach of discipline during Casual Training or Industrial Training; Any act of insubordination / defiance of authority.

The Disciplinary Committee is empowered to impose the following penalties:
  • Monetary fines, ifappropriate
  • Suspension from attendance at the Institute for a period of up to sixmonths
  • Exclusion from specified institute facilities / related classes for a specificperiod
  • Expulsion from theInstitute
  • A penalty or sanction suspended subject to satisfactoryconduct.

The Director is empowered to suspend from attendance at the Institute any such student believed to be guilty of serious misconduct or persistent breach of Institute regulations, pending a Disciplinary Committee judgement.

All judgement passed by the Disciplinary Committee shall be informed to the concerned student in writing within 3 working days of the hearing; and a copy of the same will be appended to his/her personal file/academic history for future reference.

Loss of Marksheet / Certificate

  • Need to furnish FIR (Original copy) with application addressed to National Institute of Management Studies
  • Duplicate 10Marksheet/certificate will be issued by theuniversity.

For issuance of duplicate documents the student would be charged Rs. 500/-per certificate to be paid by DD in favor of National Institute of Management Studies.

Assessments and Promotions

  • Promotion and Industrial Training will be based on Total Continuous assessmentin every subject and on all-round performance of thestudent.
  • Students are required to attend all classes on the last working day prior to exam,else would not be eligible to sit for theexamination.
  • No provision will be made for supplementary tests for students who remainabsent duringexamination.
For students failing to pass final examination –

(i) Supplementary Examination Fee :Nil

(ii) 2nd Supplementary Examination Fee : 100/-(Theory), 250/- (Practical), 500/- (Food Production Practical)

In all matters related Promotion & Industrial Training the decision of the Examination Board is final.
Periodical report will keep the parents informed about the progress of their wards.

Industrial training

The students are required to undergo a 22 weeks Industrial Training in the second year. The training may take place anywhere in India or abroad. The Institute will help the students in securing the training. The decision of Institute in placing the students is final and binding. All students are required to submit a report on the (Supervisory Work Education) Training. A student may be sent on training in any batch in second year as per the discretion of theInstitute. If a student’s training is terminated by the hotel due to misconduct or continuous absence he/she shall be responsible for completing his/her training in any other hotel arranged by him/her. The Institute will not take any responsibility in such cases.

Student / Staff Consultative Committee

For effective management of courses in the Institute and for continuous improvement in the quality of course operation, a S/S/C Committee conducts meetings once in every 2 monthsat the Institute.

The S/S/C Committee consists of a convenor, the course leader, the dy. Course leader and six student representatives from each stage of the course (e.g. year one, year two & year three).

The student/staff consultative committee considers the operation of the course as well as the aspects of student welfare. Minutes of the meeting of this committee constitute a standing item on the agenda of every course committee meeting.
